Dr. Edwards, surgeon of the fleet for the United States Navy, kept this medical journal and letter book on board ship and at the United States Navy Yard (Pensacola, Florida), the Washington Navy Yard (Washington, D.C.), and at the Naval Hospital in New York. Edwards also kept a journal of the voyage of the Ship Merrimack, which sailed from Boston, Massachusetts to locations in the Pacific Ocean. The journal also includes a listing of medical supplies.
